With a very successful 1st Annual East Kootenay Beer Festival under our belt it only seems right that we tribute this blog to the art of great beer. For many, the highlight of the event was having the ability to sample a huge variety of local craft beers and ultimately choose their personal favourite. The event resulted in not only a bunch of smiling faces as the breweries were very generous with their delicious samples, but ultimately a winner of the personal choice award for the most favoured local beer.
According to our beer loving locals the best beers are:
FIRST PLACE: Okanagan Spring — Apricot Summer Weizen
SECOND PLACE: Norsemen Inn Brewing Company — Solstice Ale
THIRD PLACE: Cariboo Brewing Company — Cariboo Cream Ale
The 1st Annual East Kootenay Beer Festival had over 50 beers to sample each having a very distinct flavour, so cheers to our local breweries for serving up a delicious variety of craft beers. According to Jeff Alworth from the Beervana blog, craft beer is “that which is brewed with a goal of "aesthetic character”. Each microbrewery that attended the Beer Festival produces a small amount of their flavorful, high-quality beer which in most cases is very different from the mass-produced beers we are all familiar with. It is said that the difference between mass produced beer and local craft breweries is similar to the difference between fast food (McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc) and a quality, local, mom and pop restaurant where the food is fresh and the service is great. There’s passion, it’s what these people WANT to do and that makes all the difference in the finished product. Ultimately, as is true so often in life, you get what you pay for!
Craft beer is about love, giving back to your community, a passion for trying new things, a love of what you do!
Enjoy our many local breweries and see you at next year’s 2nd Annual East Kootenay Beer Festival.
